This pair of island nations is celebrating its 50th year of independence, so Trinidad and Tobago House (also known as Trinbago Village) is sure to be an impressive free London 2012 Olympic attraction, even after the Games are finished. Friday, 3 August
2:35pm No queues at the moment at the Tricycle Theatre, so a perfect chance to see what is on offer. Stick fighting is on the agenda at 4pm in the downstairs theatre, featuring the Bois Academy stick fighters. The bar is closed at the moment until 7:30pm, in preparation for the jam session with artists Myron Bruce, Sheldon Blackman and Solomon.
Friday, 27 July
6:27pm Decked out in all kinds of colourful bunting and Trinidadian flags, there is no doubt this place is for one thing and one thing only, celebration. The Caribbean bar is my personal favourite with a lively bartender who’s really getting into the spirit of things (probably the rum). I’m told a steel drum band will being playing later before the opening ceremony, which is being screened live from their projector. This place has a real atmosphere and some great food, I suggest the curry-mango chicken.
6:10pm Given the weather this week you could be forgiven for thinking you were somewhere Caribbean, not in London. With today being a bit gloomier and more British, I’m glad I get to go to the Trinidad and Tobago House and recapture that sunny feeling. I almost walked past the Tricycle Theatre, tucked away along the street in Kilburn, but once inside you can hardly how anyone could miss it.
