We’re live-blogging from all the London 2012 Olympic attractions! Check out the latest updates on House of Switzerland here – and you can leave feedback on your visit below.
While Switzerland’s landmark mountain range won’t fit in the heart of London, that’s not stopping The House of Switzerland from bringing a taste of its homeland to the River Thames this summer.
The House of Switzerland is the traditional Swiss hospitality center at the Olympic Games, and this summer it’s bringing Swiss culture, food, and sport to the heart of London for all visitors to enjoy. You can find everything at The House of Switzerland from street art, traditional Swiss fare and of course the latest in gaming innovation. You might even see your favorite athlete or celebrity!
Open to the public now through 12 August, historic Glaziers Hall will house the Swiss party, just a short jaunt from the London Bridge Tube Station.
Included in the house will be the 3,000 sq. meter “Red Zone”, filled with everything from a climbing wall to a concert
hall. Those brave enough to scale the wall could even win a trip to Switzerland! The concert stage will play host to some of Switzerland’s up-and-coming musicians throughout the week.
Not into music? Monday nights will feature an open-air cinema experience, where Swiss short films and cartoons will be the headliners.
Although well known Swiss features will make up much of the 3,000 sq metre venue, it’s been a priority to surprise visitors too.
“The British Citizens are expecting mountains, they are expecting quality, they are expecting chocolate, they are expecting cheese. We can offer that, but the challenge is to present an unexpected Switzerland,” Swiss ambassador Nicolas Bideau said.
Various sporting events will be broadcast live on the big screens in the square each day. Plus, there’s a special stage for the official Swiss medal-winning ceremonies and celebrations.
